Single-microphone device: Many types of consumer electronics (including cell phones, cameras, voice-recorders, and notebook computers) support audio capture. However, standard devices currently have only a single microphone. Just as humans have two-ears to help us locate sounds and ignore background noise, putting multiple microphones in electronic devices will improve audio performance.

Microsoft Kinect: The Kinect was a breakthrough in more ways than one: along with a revolutionary low-cost depth sensor, it contains a linear array of four microphones approximately nine inches across. Sophisticated array processing techniques are used to determine which player is talking, and to cancel noise from the background and loudspeakers.

Sonistic has developed extremely small arrays (less than 1 in² in total aperture) that can cancel noise more effectively than the Kinect. The underlying technology was developed at the University of Illinois through over 15 years of research. The small sizes of our arrays allow integration into any product, and our efficient algorithms are optimized to run in software or on a low-power DSP
