The Audio Technician plays a vital role in supporting the Sound Supervisor & Lead Audio Engineer at The Juilliard School, ensuring that students and faculty have access to high-quality sound systems for various performances and projects across multiple venues.

The Audio Technician is a seasonal, 40-week position with a salary range of $51,000 – $53,000 per year.

Role Responsibilities

The Audio Technician will work closely with the Sound Supervisor and Lead Audio Engineer to:

  1. Meet with sound designers, conductors, and stage managers to determine production needs
  2. Assist in the setup and testing of sound systems in all performance spaces
  3. Install sound systems in studios when required
  4. Perform duties of A1 or A2 on productions as assigned
  5. Coordinate with Media Production on productions as needed
  6. Install and maintain video systems for conductor and stage cameras
  7. Update the Sound Supervisor on the status of productions
  8. Perform maintenance duties on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis
  9. Assist with administrative and technical paperwork

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this role, applicants must:

Ability to work collaboratively
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment

Three years of experience running sound in a professional venue
Proactive approach to assessing situations
Understanding of audio systems installation and maintenance
Ability to work flexible schedules
Ability to work nights and weekends

Preferred Background

Applicants with the following experience are preferred:

  • Experience working in an educational institution
  • Working knowledge of Dante systems
  • Experience running and editing Qlab playback systems
  • Experience using Digital consoles, especially Digico
