What Sonistic Is

Sonistic is a small, independent website built around six free audio calculators: a BPM Tempo Calculator, a Delay Time Calculator, a MIDI Note Frequency Converter, a Sample Rate & Bit Depth Calculator, an Audio File Size Calculator, and a DJ Mix Harmonic Key Calculator. Each one answers a specific, mechanical question that comes up when you’re working with sound — how long a delay should be at a given tempo, what frequency a MIDI note maps to, how big an uncompressed render will be, which keys mix cleanly on the Camelot wheel. The tools page lists all of them.

Alongside the calculators, we run a set of blog articles on audio gear, sound design, and recording, and a standalone Sound & Audio Museum— a timeline of the synthesizers, drum machines, microphones, and studio gear that shaped recorded sound, built entirely from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons entries and images.

What Sonistic Isn’t

Sonistic isn’t a manufacturer, retailer, or certification body, and it isn’t affiliated with any audio brand, standards organization, or the Wikimedia Foundation. We don’t sell gear, run a forum, or offer paid consulting. We don’t have a multilingual version, a mobile app, or a support team behind the contact form — it’s one inbox, checked by whoever is working on the site.

The calculators produce estimates, not professional audio-engineering advice. The tempo, delay-time, and sample-rate math is standard and checkable, but how it applies to your session depends on your gear, your DAW, and your ears. Treat every result as a starting point, not a final answer, and don’t rely on this site in place of your own judgment or a qualified professional where one is warranted.

How This Site Runs

Sonistic is independent and supported by on-page advertising. That is the entire business model: no subscriptions, no accounts, no data sold. We don’t track you across other sites or build an ad profile from your activity here; the ads on the page are what pay for hosting and the time spent building and maintaining the tools.

We don’t claim a user count, an age, or a team roster we haven’t got, and we won’t invent one to sound bigger than we are. What’s here is what you can see: six working calculators, a museum built from public-domain and openly licensed reference material, and articles on sound and audio topics.

The Actual Tools

The BPM Tempo Calculator converts a tempo in BPM into the millisecond length of a beat, a bar, and every standard note value, for syncing delays, LFOs, and automation to the grid. The Delay Time Calculator does the tempo-to-milliseconds conversion specifically for straight, dotted, and triplet delay times. The MIDI Note Frequency Converter converts between MIDI note numbers, note names, and frequencies in Hz, with an adjustable A4 reference for sound design and tuning work.

The Sample Rate & Bit Depth Calculator works out the uncompressed PCM data rate and file size for a given sample rate, bit depth, channel count, and duration, which is useful for budgeting storage and bandwidth before a session. The Audio File Size Calculatorestimates a file’s size from either uncompressed PCM settings or a compressed bitrate and duration, for planning exports and uploads. The DJ Mix Harmonic Key Calculatortakes a track’s Camelot code and returns every harmonically compatible key, for planning transitions and mashups.

The Museum

The Sound & Audio Museumis a separate section covering synthesizers such as the Minimoog, Prophet-5, and TB-303, the TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines, other studio and performance gear, and the microphones, speakers, and recorders used to capture and play sound. Every entry, image, and fact in it is drawn from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons rather than written by us, which is also why that section is marked for search engines not to index it.
